neutral safety switch
My XJ has been throwing a CEL code for the NSS so I figure a replacement is in order. I was going to go up to the junk yard and grab a few but then I did a google search and found a NEW replacement for $60. I think autozone wants $250 for a new one. Anyone ever heard of this brand before "Replacement"?
I think there were a few sites on the net that were even a little cheaper if I do a product number search

Have you tried cleaning the contacts yet?
NSS rarely needs to be replaced, a thorough cleaning and a little dielectric grease is usually all that's needed.
Can you please provide the exact error codes?

I dont remember the exact error codes. It threw a code a few weeks ago and I had it read at autozone and it was something like "neutral safety switch fault" The code cleared on its own.
This morning I had the jeep at the shop for inspection, and the code came on while the mechanic was test driving it. I didnt ask him the specific code number, but he told me it was a "NSS fault"
No problems starting it, it runs fine. He just cleared the codes for me
Before the light came on last time I was wheeling it and found some pretty deep mud/water. I assumed thats why it came on
I will pull it apart and clean it/grease it and see if I shows back up

The NSS is a very simple switch to clean out and repair. They werent sealed very good from the factory and the dielectric grease inside can become crusty. All you really have to do is take some time to carefully take it apart and clean real good with some electrical cleaner, lightly brush the contacts up and repack with a little dielectric grease. This will save you a couple extra dollars.
I love saving a couple extra dollars. That sounds like an evening with a beer in hand and some cleaner in another.
If it keeps throwing codes THEN I will consider replacing it

Here is a link to an excellent article on "refurbishing" the neutral safety switch. This often (but not always) restores full function.
