Default Neutral Safety Switch?

Hey just got a 97 XJ that suppose to need needs a NSS. The reverse lights usually don't work and its throwing a CEL thats something tranny sensor related..
I know it usually just needs to be taken off and cleaned, but is there a write-up to removing it and cleaning it getting it all back together so i know i can't screw anything up? I'm mostly afraid from some of the story's i've heard of breaking it when trying to remove it or losing over-drive and having other issues after trying to clean it....
Thanks!!

Drive it around for a while, maybe even several days, and the CEL's will clear themselves.

I cleaned the one on my '98 w/206K on the clock, and the CEL/codes went away after I did it. Also did a tranny flush around that time, although I doubt that anything to do with the codes. It's usually the switch that throws the codes.

I'm not sure if this is my problem but what my jeep does is when I go to start it I have to play with the automatic shifter to find the sweet spot before it will start.Sometimes it's fine other times it takes 15 minutes. What do you think?

Sounds typical of the NSS, you probably dont have reverse lights either. Popping it in neutral will usually start it... instead of playing with park.

Follow the link and do the cleaning... nice when it's a freebie fix.
