Default Neutral Safety (NSS) Switch for a 3 speed

I have a '98 Jeep Cherokee. It is automatic transmission, 6 cyl., 4x4 and a 3 speed. I am trying to replace the NSS and I can't find it. The Haynes manual is hardly helpful, and all of the info I have found online deals with the 4 speed more expensive NSS. The one I am replacing looks like an oxygen censor. Does anyone know where it is? If you could show me a picture that would be great!

Thanks,

Default mine is an 89

ANd it was on the passenger side on the tranny. It gets real dirty and is hard to find. It looks like a triangle with round corners. I just rebuilt mine saving me a lot of money. Its reall easy to do. Look up nss rebuld in google. The hardest part about the rebuild was getting it off. You have to thread the big nut back on and pry it gently off using the lip of the tranny pan. And when you get it almost off you will not be able to wedge it off the pan lip and more, so grab some needle nose pliers and use them as a brace to wedge off of. Youll need a big scew driver to. GD luck it makes a big diff once your done.

Thank you for your help, but you are speaking about the more expensive one that goes on the overdrive (4 speed) model. Mine is the one for 3 speed, costs 15-20 bucks at auto parts store. It is the size of a cigarette lighter, and looks like an oxygen censor.

From what I am seeing in the drawing in the Haynes manual they are showing this particular NSS from looking up from under the bottom of the transmission with the transmission pan removed and right in an area where the transmission pan makes a sudden turn. If I were you I would just get under there and look ONLY where the edges of the transmission pan are and from the diagram this NSS should be coming out just above the lip where the pan bolts on. Should be about as big around as a quarter and have a rubber plug with 3 wires going into it. Good luck!
