When talking exterior mods on an XJ you're gonna be pretty hard pressed to make a better first move than getting a set of Rock Sliders. If you hit your rocker panel on anything remotely hard, your Jeep is gonna fold up like lawn chair. While probably not the cheapest ones around. I bought mine from JCR Off Road. I have their Stage II Rock Sliders and they have saved my A$$ countless times.

Can't go wrong with JCR I too have the the stage 2 sliders and I love them! They are far cheaper than many brands and will definitely take a beating! If you plan on going on tight trails spend the extra money and get the dtage 2 sliders they help keep your doors and mirrors intact. Unless a tree hits your door before the rails hit the tree(ask me how i know)
