I got a hairline crack in the bottom of my 231 spare transfer case. Its right around that big bolt that sticks out that has no apparent purpose.
Think JB weld will hold well on the aluminum? If not I'm gonna just either use the parts from it and rebuild my 231, or find a 242. I do an awful lot of driving winters (5 mo/year) and something tells me the 242 would be a lot more convenient, but I bet they are a lot harder to rebuild.

If you grind the crack into a slight V shape, that'll give the JB more surface area to hold onto, and it will hold. Be sure to use JB Weld for aluminum, and scuff it up first. JMO
