I noticed a difference with the Mopar stat. I get heat closer to 10 minutes, as opposed to nearly 15 before.

My local Jeep dealership sells MotoRad thermostats. No Mopar. I have one, and have yet to see any difference from the Napa stat I've had before....payed a whole bunch of extra money unnecessarily.

I didn't forget about the closed loop video either! Hopefully tonight

The are made by MotoRad but they're not the fail-safe ones. They're made to a different spec that's not available in the aftermarket.

MotoRad is a huge OEM supplier worldwide.

No doubt about it, I'm old AND stubborn most of the time, no argument there. However, being able to buy a great t-stat (Stant) AND a suitcase of beer for the same price as a factory t-stat alone.......that's just logical, not stubborn. LOL

"it has to be a 195 (t-stat)" and "the loop doesn't close 'til temp reaches 195" r right up there with the myths/mis-information that get post in oil threads. LOL

The Stants took forever to warm up the engine if they ever even did.

I don't like being cold in freezing temps.

The thread was titled something like I need my XJ to run hotter, right?

Who wants to drink beer when they're already cold anyway?

U r obviously a lightweight recreational beer drinker......I'm a heavyweight pro, so ambient temp has nothing to do with beer drinking for me. LOL

Well Pockets, I was with you there. While I was chasing down why I was slow to heat up I checked the T-stat I had put in from Napa, (whom I generally trust) Unfortunately I can't find the photo of a small crescent of light coming through where the deal didn't seat quite right. The stat had two struts, (not three), and was just slightly warped. Actually I bent it back so it seats fine now, and saved if for a spare.

I was running rich with a stone dead 02 sensor, as well as that, now I get heat at more like 10 minutes, instead of 15. (took Cruisers advice and bought the spendy stat from the dealer)

Rich = cool(er) running motor along with all kinds of other variables. 10 minutes for good heat sounds about right. After about 10 minutes of driving, from a cold start, in our other vehicles and we start turning the heater down. Some of those other vehicles have Stant stats.

Hmmm.....

My morning commute is a mile of 5-20 mph (dirt road), then a half mile of 35, then 55 for another 3 miles up to the highway. (Assuming I don't get stuck behind a neighbor who is scared of winding roads and pokes along at 45. )

In my '94, I would have some decent heat by the time I reach the highway. Not full heat, but decent.

In my '97, I've got decent heat before I hit the 35 zone, and full heat before I hit the highway.

Could this just be a difference in thermostats?

Since I got the '97 and noticed the difference, I've actually been thinking the '94 may be stuck open.

My first 3 Mi, about 8 minutes, is straight down, 1,500 vertical of winding gravel! Yea, doing that rich with a not closed T-Stat was not making it heat up well.

Mark, please trust me, and indulge me, by putting a 52028186 stat in your Jeep.
