Default Need tips passing Smog

Ok i just got failed my first test.
Failed emissions and functions

Emissions

NO (PPM)
-------Max Ave MEAS
15mph 517 169 560 FAIL
25mpg 539 185 568 FAIL

Supposedly this emission is affected by how hot your engine is getting.
Smog dude said i was missing an AC fan, that i never heard of.
And he pointed out my radiator is probably going to give soon....
So thats pretty obvious fixes there.
Replace Radiator, and Get a Fan, and she would be running nice and cool...
OR
since its 101 degrees outside, show up to smog again first thing in the morning when its around 80.

Heres where im needing advice.
i failed a Fuel Evaporative Controls Functional test.
when they pressure my gas tank and clamp the Evap Cannister.
what is a good why to find the leak?

Thanks in advance.

For any "I failed smog" post, the minimum information would be:
- All emissions results, pass or fail (a scan of the report is easiest. Redact if desired.)
- Vehicle year, engine, and mileage.
- Any other known issues.
- Any recent changes noted in power output and/or fuel economy.

As it stands, you can bump this thread all you like - but there's just not enough for anyone who can give you an answer to go on!

awww, i assumed it was in my sig.
I have a 93 4.0L HO automatic XJ.

known issues
i lose coolant. im pretty sure i dont have a blown gasket.
cause i recently replaced a crack head. no white smoke.

Im thinking replacing the radiator and adding an electric fan is the way to go.
for the running hot problem
i have my eye on the http://www.dpgoff-road.com/ website.
cheap, and supposedly better than stock radiator.

but finding the fuel leak is where im lost.
i havn't had a chance to actually look at the fuel lines though.
but it doesn't seem like a fuel leak would be obvious.

I've heard that you can pass emissions a lot easier if you pass the guy doing it a $50.

And the rest of my questions? The information needed isn't all in your sig, y'know...

i thought all they tested was the gas cap for the pressure test. If that is it then a new one, but if they checked on the fill up thing then i have no clue.

up here, they only test the cap too.

but high NOx is usually caused by high temps in the combustion chamber, which is usually causes by a faulty EGR valve, or a faulty cat.

also, it should only be tested with a 2 speed idle test, no rollers.

i just had my tj tested yesterday.

Update:
I had my current radiator rodded out.
Radiator dude, said it was 40% plugged up, and that i had a really good radiator. that they dont make em like they used to cause we get em from china nowadays.

And i went poking around my fuel tank, i dropped it, and replace some hoses, including one that looked dry rotted.

Will let you guys know the smog goes.

I'm sure the cat is not working as well as it should , but a tune up and perhaps a good cat will pass it. your ppm on nox is not that high (would pass in Jersey ppm = 950) Timing is not adjustable because of the lock tab on the distributor ...I broke it off on my high mileage 265000 ZJ and it passed.

You shouldn t need a new cat because of a cracked head ,thats one i havent heard. Try getting a shroud and the eletric fan for your jeep it will only help you out anyways I havent ever treid that stuff for emmissions but it cant hurt. good luck

nox are high because you are running lean, check for intake leaks specifaclly around the bottom bolts on the intake manifold. If your hc were high it would point to the cat or a tune up. Nox are lean, since you just replaced your head i would look at the vacume lines or the intake all would cause the lean.
