Hey, so a couple of weeks ago I posted a thread about a problem a Jeep I wanted to buy had. The Jeep is a 1999 Cherokee Limited with 12X,XXX miles.
The problem was the engine not responding for a couple of seconds after pressing the gas. The mechanic (a transmission and engine repair specialist with 25+ years experience) who was going to take care of the problem told me that there was 2 problems with the Jeep.
The first problem was the O2 sensor which he replaced. This, however, did not fix the engine rev delay. He says that the problem occurrs while the engine is still "cold". Once it "warms" up the problem is gone.
The mechanic thinks the problem might be the throttle switch. If indeed it is the throttle switch it should be a $100-$300 fix. However, I'm still a bit skeptical if that will fix the delay.
I've had people tell me that it might be a more serious problem, although it doesn't seem like it, but because I am a college student I can't afford to buy a problem.
Any help will be greatly appreciated just like last time! Thanks again.

maybe a basic tune-up can help clear some of that delay up...(air filter, plugs wires) some of those shops will lead you on a goose chase with repairing sensors and various parts just to get some extra cash out of you..... always try to find someone you know and can trust... anyone with years of experience can say they'll fix it and hardly get anywhere just so they can run you along a little bit more
Is the mechanic the same person selling the jeep? I'm wondering about his skills because for a non responsive throttle the TPS (throttle position sensor) would be my first place to test/replace. I do not belive an O2 sensor would cause the throttle to respond slowly (not a couple of seconds anyhow).
