its very very slight...it actually is hard to hear sometime, but i think running that thru for a oil change would be good to clean things up....previous owner always used low quality oil before

sorry to hijack thread..im done

That's how one of mine was, but it still took a while for it to free up. Had good maintenance and wasn't sludgy but would tick sometimes and not others.

Yes I have and it's surprisingly clean in there except for everything being stained brown.

So I guess 10w-30 is correct. It has never dropped below zero here that I know of but, it will get below 30 in winter.

What's your take on this Hyper Lube stuff? Any good or will it start blowing seals? I drained enough oil out to add a bottle of MMO and if anything, it's slightly louder now. I was thinking of just redoing the oil change and adding in the Hyper Lube to see if it quiets things down.
I've also noticed that it gets louder if I use any sort of high mileage oil. Conventional oil seems to work best but, I've never tried synthetic in it either.

I have noticed that my oil pressure has dropped to a more reasonable range since I installed the Wix filter. It was pegging out to 80psi on a cold start and staying up around 60 at full warm idle and back up to 70 or so at highway speeds.
Now, it still pegs out at 80 on a cold start but, drops to about 60 within a few minutes and to around 40 at warm idle and only goes up to about 50 or 55 at highway speeds.

I got Rotella 10w-30. The T5 stuff. Made my XJ run much smoother.

I'm thinking your oil sending unit is bad. You could verify it by testing with a mechanical gauge.

Never heard of hyper-lube but I had good results on a ticky 4.0 using Restore.

do you run it for the 3k miles or do you drain it after 100 miles or so?
Actually this may throw you.... I change the filter around 3 to 5 thousand and add a bottle of oil detergent then top off with oil. I do that about twice before I do a full change. Once in a while I toss in a bottle of RESTORE for V8s' when I feel it's needed.

I dnk if this will help with the ticking but my engine was gunked up and after running walmart 15-40 for the past year and changing every 3k the top of my cylinder head looks brand new! The oil used to turn black shortly after the first few changes but now it goes the 3k without getting dark. I only wish they made it in 10-40 but since my Jeep stays garaged it is not an issue.

Is it OK to run 15w-40 in the XJs?? My 2001 has 170,000 I run 10-40 high mileage Walmart,Pennzoil or Valvo. In summer and the same but in 10w-30 the rest of the year in NJ. I was wondering how it woul run with Delo 15w40. I use the NAPA Silver filters. I have a noticeable knock most of the time of course too.

The hyperlube is like an oil modifier just really makes it a little more sticky not thicker so much. have not had a problem with seals blowing. Conventional oil doesn't have the same amount of detergents in it that are in synthetics, highmileage, or castrol... So it has a habit of staying put instead of washing away. The MMO takes the place of the detergents and does extra stuff that is on the bottle. About every third oil change I run a bottle of engine flush let it work for 10min instead of the 5 on the bottle, seems to do no harm and keeps things clean.
In the winter in MO I treated my 4.0 like a diesel, start it and walk away, give it about 10 min to warm up or till the Ice was defrosted on the windows.
