lead in, 97 xj, had a crack in my head
in the vic of the intake valve on cylinder #1 . found it with a compression test then verified with a dye test. the engine ran smooth but the coolant level was going down slowly. The temp while running wasn't much more than normal (compared it to our 2000 XJ).
So after getting all the parts off , waiting on new head (0630)and putting all parts back on. I fired it up yesterday and now i have a knock. I'm going out today to try to narrow down where the knock is at. Any suggestion?? thanks in advance

Not to make a bad day for you but coolant in your oil will spell problems for your bearings. Most that have a cracked head issue are the later model heads like that on your 2000. Usually when they go coolant leaks into the oil and destroys most of the engine. (so keep a close eye on that 2000).
How's your oil pressure? Did you make sure the push rods were seated properly into the lifters?

Cherockee, thank you sir,
When i started i drained the oil and the coolant. The Drained oil didn't have an visible contaminants, it looked and smelled normal. That is always checked when I drain any fluids. The Coolant was still a bright green. The oil pressure is good.
Yes sir on the push rods seated, as I used to work alot on VW bugs and that was always a pain. But to be safe i'm going to take the valve cover off and check each one. And shine a light down to the rod seats and make sure nothing is down that way.
I understand on the 2000, the saving grace for it is the spousal unit drives it. It seems the head on the 2000 is a royal pain, from what i have been reading on the forum..
I will keep ya posted on what/if/or i find out...
