Default need some help please

OK so heres the deal, the battery has died on my 99 xj twice, the first time i just charged it and it had a hard time starting on its own, i had to hold down slightly on the gas pedal just so it would start and idle, if i let off of the gas it would just die, so i just held it there for a wile and it finally would idle on its own and i drove it for 4 months with no problems after that, but the battery died again and this time it wont fix the idle by it self, any ideas?

thanks, chad

Could be TPS or starter. For that matter what condition are the wires from battery in, plugs/wires.. Is cel on?

1 get a new battery
2 if its dead its probably trying to rest the fuel injection system
3 get a new battery if you are out on the trail and it dies your SOL and it might be a long walk back

yes a marginal battery describes every symptom you have. Get it load tested, dont over think it until then. There is a guy around here that I swear has at least 1,000 posts with "marginal battery" in it explaining exactly what I just did. He will show up! lol

i was thinking tps but maby it is the battery, guy i bought the jeep from only changed the oil and air filter, used to have original plugs and wires on it with 200k on them! i changed all the plugs and wires not to long ago but it still has the original battery, but it never gave me problems till now " if it aint broke dont fix it" lol

From your description and subsequent posts I cannot deduce whether or not you replaced the battery. If not, start with that as everyone has said; troubleshoot that way instead of having people guess other things. It's like putting off the inevitable with the battery it sounds like. Mine did all sorts of crazy stuff before I replaced the battery and its been smooth sailing as far as starting and behavioral issues since I replaced it.

Problem: XJ is acting up on start and battery is shotty.

Step 1 - Post on forum
Step 2 - Replace battery and observe
Step 3 - Post results on forum for more educated guesses
Step 4 - Get on your knees and....pray to Jeep Gods.

Good luck brother.

Have you ever run any injector cleaner you might have a plugged injector. or I don't know if you have a mass air flow sensor it might dirty. Fuel pump might be getting ready to go. Fuel filter plugged. I think somemore
