Default Need to replace my engine

Without going into detail, I managed to put a hole in the side of my engine block, so looking my options which include just swapping the engine.

I have a 1987 Cherokee, 4.0L & manual transmission. I found a potential donor vehicle that has an automatic. Is there anything different between a 4.0L mounted to an automatic and manual transmission? I see lots of threads about swapping transmissions, but nothing about putting an engine that was mounted to an automatic into a vehicle that has a manual transmission.

Thanks for any insight you can give.

Just swap the bad engines flywheel to the new engine and toss it in.

If it were mine i'd also consider a complete clutch replacement at that time.

Thanks guys! I appreciate it.

Now I'll let you guess how I put a hole in the side of my block.

jbetit.. good catch on asking what year. I misread that the donor was the same year originally.

Not so much that water doesn't combust as it doesn't compress. Now I know to pull the plugs first & pump the water out of the cylinders before trying to restart an engine that drank water.

Live and learn.

Bought the "organ donor" vehicle. I'll harvest the engine, exhaust, radiator, outside mirrors and maybe a few other odds and ends then sell off the carcass. The body is remarkably straight and paint in good condition. The automatic transmission also seemed in good condition on the drive home. If anyone is interested in it, it should be available in the next few weeks.

I prefer the drive train in Cheep #1 plus it is so ugly, I don't mind beating it up. If I had a nice looking beater I might care what I do to it. On top of that, someone may actually give me a few hundred dollars for the carcass of the nice looking donor vehicle. I'd have to pay someone to take the other one.

Have you sold the white donor yet? If not where in the country are you?
