There was a 2wd one up for sale locally for $1000, but it was rusted real bad and was more of a project than a DD which is what I needed. Just out of curiosity, do those do good offroad considering there's no weight in the back to keep the wheels from breaking loose?

I wasn't worried about it...the owner of the yard is a family friend. comanches don't make it into his junkyard...only into the front lot. from there, I either strip them if they're scrap, or pick them up before he processes the titles. that's why I've had so many.

and there's pretty much the same weight in the back of an MJ as there is in an XJ. I love wheelin it.

There aren't any Comanches in the local junkyards around here. If my XJ ever comes off the road for some reason like being totaled, but still drivable, I'd like to do the chop-top mod and get the MJ tailgate and rear window, but there's nothing around these junkyards. There's plenty of XJs, just no MJs. Seems like they're getting harder to find by the day.

I bought the 2.5" cat back from Jegs, mainly for their 2.5" piping that would work with a 2.5" Dynomax Super Turbo muffler I had from a car I had sold and never installed. The setup sounds pretty gnarly at idle (think motor boat) and good when on the gas and very quiet while cruising. It does drone around town and when on the throttle but def. turns heads when driving by.

The system from Jegs probably sounds exactly the same as my setup I just happened to like the build quality of the Dynomax better (both mufflers are the exact same size, dimensions).

I ended up with a Thrush Welded because it's all Pepboys had in stock and I needed it. Also, it was only $30 and I'm on a tight budget.

Well I don't know yet because it's still in the box My Jeep doesn't run yet, I need to replace the distributor. My buddy had a Wagoneer with the same muffler though, and his sounded good, so I'm gonna assume mine will too. I should have the new distributor in on Tuesday and hopefully will have enough to put the new muffler on. I'll keep you posted and might make a video so people can compare.

If you're going to spend that much money, then get a flowmaster. I didn't because I can't afford it. I heard they make an offroad edition Super 40, so that would be perfect. And like he said, 2.25" pipe with center/offset muffler.

Haha, I don't have enough money for flowmaster. I bought a Thrush Welded because it's all PepBoys had.

I have a 99 with a free used "warlock" muffler...not on yet..question is...my buddy told me to order a 93 tailpipe for my 99 sport...the muffler is a 2.5 inch...was the 93 TP larger than the 99 ?

I'm pretty sure the piping is 2.25" all the way throughout the exhaust system. Also, the ends are thinner so they fit into the 2.25" snuggly. I had a problem when I put mine on because I didn't know they thinned out, so didn't buy the adapter. Now I just keep the tailpipe in the back seat instead All you need is an adapter from Pepboys and it should work fine.

I have a straight pipe, my bro in law has a flowmaster....and I honestly can't tell a difference. Perhaps if I had them side by side then I would notice, but listening to them separately does not make me wish I had dropped the money on a flowmaster, and conversely he as remarked that he wishes he would have saved his money and done what I did. With a stock tailpipe and cat, it sounds great at idle, very nice growl under acceleration, and quiet at cruise.
