Need a new motor
I took my jeep in to get the tc fixed cuz it blew a hole in side. They tell me some bearing is out inside thats what my oil leak is from the pulley grinding againgst the block. Does any of u guys have or know where to get a 4.0l straight six for not too expensive. This truck is all i have as i became homeless not too long ago.

How does a TC issue morf into an engine replacement?
Maybe try explaining things better and more detail.
Is the mechanic's name Ben Dover by chance?
He has two problems.
TC appears to be fixed........? guessing.
Mechanic found new problem....apparently......HB rubbing timing cover.
Mechanic is wrong.......he needs a new HB.
One must astute in the ways of ubonics........illiterate white trash/hillbilly communication.

I'm guessing TC = timing cover. A slight shift in perspective makes a huge difference.
If I'm understanding correctly, either the harmonic balancer or a timing gear has rubbed a hole in the timing cover, manifesting itself as an oil leak, which he took it to a mechanic to fix. The mechanic has apparently told him that a bad bearing has caused one of the rotating shafts to walk, causing one of the timing gears or the harmonic balancer to rub... something. I've heard of walking camshafts in other engines, but does that happen with the 4.0L?
With the question reframed, anybody have any ideas for this guy?
88laredoMT, I realize your situation is not ideal, but is it possible for you to take a picture of the area on the front of the motor that has the problem and post it here on the board? When they're not being smartasses, the folks here are pretty knowledgeable and helpful, but you have to meet them halfway with as much clear information as you can provide. A pic may clear a lot of this up.
And I would definitely suggest getting a second opinion. I'm not saying your mechanic is wrong, but if it's something as simple as a bad harmonic balancer, there would be no reason to replace an entire engine.
ETA: I wonder if the mechanic saw that jaggy oiling hole in the block above the camshaft and assumed that it was done for?
