Did it break off, or did you yank it off during a recovery? Got any pics of the damage?

I can't post pictures right now but the reese has three holes on both sides that bolt to the jeep frame (unibody) and the holes are ripped out. So I have no way to mount it back up. I bought the jeep this way so I do t know how it happened.

So just fab up a large enough bracket to distribute the force and secure a tow hook on it? Sounds easy, maybe too easy... I was under the impression it took much more to do a set of tow hooks. Is it really that simple?

well that is the basic idea use the nut strips and wrap it up and to the bumper mounts then use the bracket to mount your tow hooks. it is no different then how they mount the bumpers and those are strong enough to get pulled from

Thanks... now maybe I can stop fartin' around and actually put on a pair. You said the bumpers were strong enough... If I put a tow hook on/through it and put a thick plate on the inside of the bumper to help distribute the load I should be OK right?

no i would make a plat that attaches to the 3 nut strips per side and the bumper mounts to mount them to if you wrap the plate into the bumper and mount off that it should be fine (sorry if this is hard to under stand)

So basically have the plate bolt into the same location as the bumper mounts, then route the plate to the desired mounting location w/ appropriate bracing?

The frame is not rotted it is torn open. I will post a picture so you can see what I mean.
