I had a 68 mustang a while back and I use to fill and leave the radiator cap off, then start the car and let the engine warm up. Once the thermostat opened up, the coolant would circulate and I would see the occasional bubble. After the coolant heated up too much, it would rise and bubble out of the radiator. I would promptly shut off the engine, allow to cool and top off.
I think the bubbles will actually make their way through the system though and are exchanged for coolant when they go through the reservoir. Then you just top off the reservoir.

Caracticus Potts The Mod
In some cases when I get one that is somewhat air bound. I jack the front up or drive it up on two 4x4's and let it run with the rad cap off and the heater set to max high and heat. After about a 1/2 hour they usually burp themselves.
