Silly one that got me...

Have you been through any mud latly? If so check between the rad and the air conditioning cooler (or what ever its called) I had just a bunch of mud that had been building up there and caused all kinds of overheating issues for me.

Just a thought, make sure its not the simple before going into the harder stuff.

Check your fan clutch if you haven't. Check out this thread for how it should work.

I just replaced mine with a Flex fan today and it runs much cooler. I was able to shut the motor off, go in my house and watch a movie then come out and my fan was still spinning...lol...J/K...but it was real bad and spun about 8 times after shutting of the motor so do that test and see how many times it spins after fully warmed up after you shut it down...Tj

Oh, just noticed that you have an 89 with the closed system. You may need to "burp" the trapped air out since you just had it drained. Just search on burping the cooling system on here and I guarantee you'll find plenty of results.

Flex fan...cool. So does it still have a clutch or just spin directly with engine speed all the time?

It spins direct and flattens out after 30-40 mph so it supposed to save on gas mileage, sounds kool too...Tj

A clutch fan part costs around $38-$40 and I picked up the Fiberglass flex fan and the spacer mounting kit for $50 and they will never go bad again...Tj

Flex fans are unforgiving... a clutched-fan lets you keep your fingers.

Yea thats why you keep your hands away from them, and watch your arms too when you stick them in there. I have a nice scar from one from my Blazer...Tj
