OK so i now have a 2000 Xj and i was listening to the radio while working on it when the radio started cutting out, i thought my battery was dead so i went to start it but it tried to start as if the battery was fine. I pumped the gas a little and it started, then died. It wouldn't idle i could rev the engine to keep it going but when i let off it died without even trying to idle. Any ideas on what this could be?

 

mine did this a couple times, once you get it running again drive it around a bit keeping your revs up and then after a couple of minutes it will idle just fine. I never found out what caused it but that is what fixed it every time.

 

well i was thinking it might be the fuel filter is clogged? or something to that effect

 

there is no fuel filter on the 2000's that is accessible to really check that out since fuel pump and all requires you to remove your fuel tank, just try what I said before and if you still have that problem then start taking your tank out and see if your problem is the pump

 

sorry i forgot to explain earlier but the fuel pump is internally mounted in the tank which is a PIA to check out
