Default need help have no idea whats going on

I am a 1987 xj and im not really sure what is going on. When you are sitting at a stop sign and you get ready to go if you give it too much gas it will die. So to start out you have to feather the gas to get it to go then you can get on it. Can anyone help me?

yeah if its an 87 like mine, great shape but id still do all the 'under $100 tuneup'....

fuel filter, air filter, tps, check vaccuum lines like he said, inspect the plugs and wires, fill it up and run some good quality injector cleaner through a tank or two.

start small..do one thing at a time and test it.

leaking wheel cylinder in the break drums leaking making it sluggy and stal out what! no first thing fuel filter, plugs wires. doesnt fix it fuel pump. the filter is most likely glogged and not leting enough gas through when you get it goin it will run fine as you have more fuel pressure going through the filter most people never change its not something to just forget about good luck

Another possibility is your o2 sensors if the older XJs had them. My 98 acted similar, it would run fine but at a red light it would die when the light turned green and i tried to go. I had ripped a wire out of the o2 sensor goin thru some brush and didn't know it. I changed to sensor and problem solved. I don't know if it applies to your problem but it might be worth checking.
