Knowing the year and what motor you have in your XJ would really help. I'm going to just go with what is mostcommon. With a 4.0 straight 6 in most years is like this. You have to loosen the power steering pump to get your serpantine belt off. 1 bolt on the front and 2 on the back of the PS pump need to be loosened. Then there is a long bolt that comes in from the side right by the pulley. Turn this bolt and the PS pump will begin to slide toward the motor, thus loosening the serpantine belt. Swap the belt and tighten it by turning the long bolt the other way. Then tighten the rest of the bolts on the PS pump.

If you have a 4.0L I6 from 97 to 01 you have to loosen a bolt that is located underneath the power steering pump. Have a rubber mallet or something soft handy because you will need to wack the pulley to loosen it. MEMORIZE OR TAKE A PICTURE OF HOW IT GOES. I spent the better part of 3 hours of my life feeling stupid for not doing that simple step. It is different for each year and what options that you have as to what way the belt is routed. HAYES MANUALS DO NOT ALL HAVE THE INFO.

Well mabey not!!! I tried pulling it around with the ac on and I got a horrible squeal when I tapped the gas real quick. It only did this with the AC on could I have the belt too loose still?

You guessed it. Squeeling = Loose Belt. Tighten the belt until you can only deflect it 1/2-3/4 of an inch on the span between the PS pump pulley and the Water Pump pulley.
