This is the deal. Ive got a 85 XJ with a 2.5L that has a feedback style Carter YF carb. It will crank and run fine one time then the next time youll be driving and it will just die like it ran out of fuel. Afterwards i can pop the hood and u can see where fuel has leaked from between the carb and intake. And it wont start for a while then i can start it and run for a while but then does the same thing. Also if it helps the exhaust coming from the pipe is hotter than usual. Anyone have any idas about whats going on?

Sounds like you've got a bad vacuum leak, I would replace the gasket between the carb and intake. If the gasket is bad you are sucking air in and making it run lean and this will make the exhaust manifold hotter.
Hope this helps.

thanks but thats not it. Ive gasket is good i know for sure. Its almost like its vapor locking, but the clothes pin trick isnt working. I personally think its the catalytic converter malfunctioning maybe causing to much pressure but Im not 100%. Anybody have anything?

the reason its stallinh is because its flooding out after the fuel evaporates it starts again

The needle and seat is leaking in the float bowl. Bowl overfills, flooding. Check with Napa, needle and seat often part of a good carb rebuild kit, along with accel pump piston, gaskets. Get some carb cleaner and an old tooth brush. By the time you have a half dozen carb rebuilds under your belt your can do it in an hour. Set aside a half day if your 1st adventure. Read the instructions in the kit. Take your time. Take digital pictures or tag off with lables anything you take apart to get the carb out. Lay the carb parts out in order as you disassemble. Check your float for any pinholes.
It will run better.

Well you know the sad part??? This carb is only 5 months old. Bought it from O'Rielly's. Its a Tomco carb and I cant take it back cuz its already out of warranty and on top of that out of the $3k worth of receipts I have that one receipt is nowhere to be found lol go figure. And for about $25 more I could have bought a Weber. Does anyone know what is involved with a Weber carb swap?? Ive heard that you have to change the distributor for some reason. I dont know know for sure.
