Default Brake Problems

My jeep is having brake problems and I don't know what it is. hopefully you guys can help me. In the mornings when its cold out and I start my jeep everything is fine. The problem is the first time I try to brake even if I barely brake it feels like i just slammed on the brakes. It will continue to suddenly stop for the first few times i use the brake but then stops. also happens whenever I leave my jeep somewhere for long periods of time (coming out of school). I was wondering if any of you guys are having similar problems and what this might be, and if you know what it is how I can fix it. Thanks.

haha. damn xj breaks. they do this. on occasion, mine will grab for the first few times. it could be that if yours do it more than not then something is sticking. rear drums are pretty straightforward. times like this its nice to have a mechanic buddy to put your jeep up on his lift and help with the process..

not normal and not safe! I wonder if the front pads are installed wrong. If you're handy with tools check these threads for how they should be:

Many brake shops will do a free inspection, please get them fixed.

Mine did this for the longest time, especially when it was cold. They'd lock up the first time I hit them, then be fine after they warmed up.

Now that I think on it, though, that went away when I had the front brakes redone. Better get new pads, and maybe have your rotors turned.

The most common reason for this super stopping power is because of the material the brakes are made of. They like to absorb moister and cause them to be graby when they are first used. Thats what a mechanic (my dad) said was the cause.

this symptom is called "morning sickness"
caused by brake pad material, change your pads back to Semi-metalics, have your rotors turned
