took the valve cover off to clean it, tried to take off the pcv valve and the other plastic breather valve and both of them just busted up into pieces as i was pulling them out. advance auto parts doesn't have a listing for either one. where do you guys get them? what are their actual parts listing names?

Junk Yard is your friend.

As far as the gaskets. I just bought some gasket paper and cut them out. I did install a autozone chrome breather. But I hate it and want stock back. So I got a JY valve cover to install eventually.

but the ones in the JY are probably older than the ones I had on the XJ. i think i wanna get new ones. i mean this plastic was in such a bad shape that it didn't even take much effort to break it.

So, what is the proper way to remove the PCV valve and breather cap anyway? I can see that they are letting out some vapors and I want to get rid of this issue ASAP and cheap.

Well that just sucks...

You might just have to rob a Valve Cover from the J/Y until you can get the parts ordered and delivered...

If you didnt get your problem fixed, heres a solution you might be will to do.

This is gonna sound odd, but it works fine for me...

Go a hardware store, to the plumbing section...find a 90* elbow probably like an inch in diameter. MAKE SURE ONE END IS FEMALE AND THE OTHER IS MALE!!! That part is important!

Now find some, 1" O.D. hose. Get like 1.5ft just to be safe and a 1" hose clamp.

Now your all set, bring those to your XJ....With your 90* elbow stick the MALE end in the rubber seal on your engine. Then holding it, jam the hose into the FEMALE end. Now attach the other end of the hose to where its suppose to go and clamp it down with the hose clamp. (If you have to much hose, you can always cut a couple inches off or so)

BAM! Youre all done!
If you want me to take a pic, I can.

Hope this helps!

(EDIT): Just saw you have a 99 XJ. Dont know if this will help, actually??? I have a Renix engine.....

O'reilly had the PCV. so, i bought two and drilled the other one out for the size of the breather. or somewhere close in that range.
I APPRECIATE ALL THE HELP.
