hey i have a 1999 jeep cherokee 4.0 with 150 000 miles i just changed the water pump t stat and radaitor and cap and all hose when refilling system i noticed that it was leaking out of a frezze plug on side of block so i changed all of them on the side of block and then finished fill system and then i ran the truck and notice another leak of coolant coming from back of motor up top i did not now about the frezze plug back there and i think its coming from there i feel back there i dont feel a hole in plug but really cant tell could it be leaking from anything else back there maybe something came losse when i had manfoilds off just checking i now u have to take motor out to change that frezze plug any input would be helpful
and one more thing somebody offer me 750 should i take it i just put 300 into with water pump radiator and t stat and cap and exhaust manifold

This link has a pic of where they are. 750, and no major issues, is a little ridiculous, I sold my 99 for 600 without a running engine. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/f...cement-614476/

No, there's really nothing else on the back of the motor that could be leaking, and if one freeze plug was bad, certainly another one could be too. I assume that you've made sure the heater hose connections at the firewall are good and dry, right? There's a very small chance one of those is leaking and coolant is somehow getting to the area of the engine that makes it look like it's the freeze plug- but unlikely.
I know if I were you I would be thinking the same thing- it's a lot of work to pull an engine to replace the freeze plug. But the fact remains, others will not think the Jeep is worth anything because of the leak, and the leak needs to be fixed- can't really drive it like it is. And if it were me I'd probably bite the bullet and pull the engine and fix it up.

Well, in any case you could just pull the head I suppose. For some reason I'm thinking there is one between the block and the transmision, but I can't be sure now. I could check the block sitting in my garage tomorrow.
So if you pull the head to do that freeze plug you would be putting a new head gasket on too so that could help.
