Need front end/death wobble help
Hey guys I'm new here and just bought a 1992 cherokee. When I first got it it had very lose steering, almost like when you hit bumps it would slide to the other side of the road. It felt like it wanted to slide all over "hard to explain" but I craweled underneath and noticed the tie rod / adjustment sleeve was bent BADLY! It looked like somebody tryed to pull it out with that. But anyway I replaced it and now have horrible death wobble when I hit 40-50mph. And don't ask me if the bolts are tight because I double checked everything. But any suggestions on what it could be would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks
Obviously, there are dozens of potential causes. Can you tell us what's been done to your Jeep? Specifically, lift, tires, long arms, etc. That will make it a little easier to make suggestions.

Start by having the toe set to spec. If the toe is out the tires will fight each other going down the road and cause a wobble.

Just about anything loose or worn up front can cause that. I agree with starting with new tires and a good alignment.
Steering stabilizer won't cause that wobble, it can help mask it but it is neither a root cause nor a fix.

It will cause wobble cause i had it and replaced only the steering stabilizer. Cured the problem, same issue with my one buddy's jeep. Just try it out and see. Worked for me can always be just the simplest things.
Tires, check all tie rod ends, steering stabilizer, steering gear. Make sure all ends are greased up good. The steering stabilizer is just somewhat of a "bandaid" until you figure out the root of the problem. In cases like my jeep, my front end was junk and junk tires on there. Align it as well like Radi said with tires first. Then get under there and check everything out.

Check for a worn out steering knuckle. I replaced everything possible even upgraded the driver Side TRE to V8 ZJ (since they are beefy) and finally found that the passenger knuckle where you TRE bolts in was egged out. I still get slight wobble but that's a different issue I'm dealing with
It's there to keep the steering wheel from kicking back during offroad operation.
If replacing the stabilizer "fixes" a case of wobble, there is still something wrong in the front end and the stabilizer is masking it.
