The vc is easy and takes like a hour total, if you do the other stuff your looking at a day of work but if it needs it than its not a bad time to do it

Other little things to do is throw on new CCV grommets (If the old ones are nice and hard) and paint it while it's off (you may regret not doing it while it's off like I do).

But like wiggles said, it looks like you may need to do more than the VC gasket. Head gasket might be in your near future and it may be worth it to spend the day for it.

Use felpro silicone valve cover gasket as for the other have cooling system pressure checked to see if its good, changing a head gasket just because can lead to a world of headaches if its not needed. As for intake and exhaust same thing unless theres a issue dont mess change axle and transfer case fluids if your looking for things to do.

Was the smoke right after an uphill charge or going down a decline?

You probably loaded up the head with oil on that incline and sucked it thru the valve seals, which is why I asked. Did the exhaust smell like oil burning? if so, I'd do valve seals and make sure the return passages in the head arent plugged with sludge while your in there.

It just wont last as long as a Fel Pro rubber gasket. You'll probably end up changing it again within a year
