Ok, I'm lost at this point. The A/C stopped working and I cannot figure out why. The electric fan is good, the compressor clutch is good. Checked the fuses. They're good. When I turn on the A/C, nothing happens. The the cabin fan comes on, but nothing else happens. I swapped the fog-light relay with the a/c relay and that didn't change anything either. I'm just not sure where to go at this point.
It's a 98 4.0l
Thanks

Well, nothing happens at all. I replaced the compressor in the spring along with the receiver/dryer and orifice tube. I guess I can have someone check to see if the system is still charged as I do not have gauges myself. Just weird as it worked the day before.

Did u have the work done/parts replaced or did u do it all yourself? If u had it done, take it back to who did it.
You can get a recharge kit at a autoparts store for like $15, it come with a gauge. Just make sure you get one where the housing is one piece around the gauge. I had a gauge shot out of one on me. If the pressure is low the compressor wont turn on, there are multiple pressure sensors to make sure the system is pressurized for operation. If everything is new and there is pressure one of the sensor is likely the issue.
If the blower is working, but the AC compressor is not kicking on, you probably have low refrigerant. The AC compressor will not kick on when you have low pressure in the system. There is a low pressure switch.
If your refrigerant pressure is low - then you have a leak somewhere. Perform a dye test (you can get this at a local auto parts store), charge your system with refrigerant and a dye additive, and run the AC for a while. After that, pray for a while that the leak is in a hose fitting or somewhere in the engine bay. Because not to be a pessimist, but it is probably the evaporator core, which is a PITA to fix. A shop will charge you over $1K to do this because of the labor. It requires ripping out the whole dash. The part itself is quite cheap, but replacing it is a nightmare - I just did this over the summer.

Ok. Thanks for the replies. I'll get the charge checked. If it ends up being a leaky evap core, it will suck, but not a huge deal. I used to work at a VW shop and I've assembled and disassembled dozens and dozens of them, so that part I am used to. Doesn't make it suck any less, but at least it will only cost me parts.
