x2. That is totally rediculous. Call him back, tell him he 2 options: one, he works out a deal to get you on the road with a solid vehicle and not a lemon, or 2 the BBB and anyone else you can think of will be so far up his *** that he'll be spittin up legal papers for the next month.

Just curious about this - nobody has commented on it so far...

Thanks for the replies. You can be sure I'll be writing LOTS of letters to BBB and many other agencies if I don't get some concessions.

I would get online and file a complaint with the BBB, they will contact the seller and try to resolve the problem, if they get no action from the dealer, Another choice other than the BBB, file a Small Claims suit against the ***. Then he will have to explain to the local town judge WHY this vehicle is not his responsibility to repair. Also contact your State Attoreny General and state DMV they may already have a file on his business.

your oil pressure is fine. I think the haynes manual says above 7 psi is fine. I'll look into it and post again

Lemon law won't apply here.

If the place you bought it from won't help you out and you have EXHAUSTED that option (after a visit to them in PERSON) you would be well served to find an independent shop who is willing to find and install SALVAGE YARD parts.

It really is the only economical option here.

As far as oil pressure, below is the specs for the Jeep 4.0

*Not less than 13 psi at HOT idle

*Between 37-75 psi over 1600 rpms

Good luck!

Thanks for everyone's input. Long story short, I think my Jeep is OK for the time being. The differential isn't making any noise when its on the road. I can't imagine it would be toast and not be making noise. It only makes noise when its engaged while its on a lift, which I believe is due to the drive shaft coming out of alignment without the weight of the Jeep on the axle.

At any rate, I am not going to dump a bunch of money into a new rear end at this point. Aside from an occasional jolt when accelerating from a complete stop, she drives beautifully. I'm going to check out the throttle body and replace all the spark plugs.

Also, I am so tired of f***ing mechanics after this whole ordeal. I don't trust any of them anymore. Lesson learned is "trust no one, learn to do it yourself."

Folks, the Better Business Bureau is a private business.

They are not Government. They have no power to make anybody fix anything.

If the OP poster bought his Jeep AS IS NO WARRANTY, and signed it, then he doesn't have a legal leg to stand on. He bought it with all existing flaws, hidden or not. Known or unknown.

Having slack and wear and flaws is normal in a 24 year old vehicle. If anyone thinks otherwise, you are living in Fairyland.

Change all the fluids and drive the sucker.

Oh, and 10 PSI per 1,000 RPM after warmup for oil pressure is adequate.

The dealer starts yelling unprovoked. He is playing a game, he wants to intimidate you and you go away. He plays the game every day. Keep a cool head, you cannot think straight when angry, and go after the dealer. Get everything from the dealer you can. Can you take it back? Think through your options and the financial reality of each viable option.
