Need advice on isolating engine miss

Default Need advice on isolating engine miss

88, 4.0, auto, 4x4 230k miles. Engine runs flawlessly until crawling for a few hours then out of the blue it spits & sputters when you give it throttle (it'll idle perfectly though). It doesn't stall, just spits & sputters. It also smells rich when this happens. It appears to happen more so when I shut off and re-crank the engine multiple times during our ride. The engine is not overheated, I run a Aux fan and the temp is 190. Again for no reason it'll clear up and start running fine. I would appreciate if you folks out there would give me your opinion what the fix is. It runs great 95% of the time. Thanks.

not sure but 190 sounds low, arent we running at 210 normally?

Mine runs 190, 195 unless I get into traffic then it gets to 210 then my electric fan comes on.As far as it loading up I don't know why it would be doing that.Maybe map senser.Somebody else got anything.

How bout vapor lock? The mechanic I'm consulting say's it's more common than you think. Hood louvers maybe?

You could have developed a vacuum leak on one of the connectors or lines,iac could be fouled,or egr is coming in to soon.
