I never messed with it in 4wd, because I knew it was bad. When I hit just below 65, the steering wheel got a bad shake to it, worse than at every other speed.

I replaced the bearing and rotated the bad tire yesterday, and no more skipping, vibrations at 65, corrected the whole problem. Maybe it isnt the bearing, but something very close to that is bad, imitating your symptoms. I would check all the bolts, make sure the 3 bolts going into the hub are secure, if one of those is loose I bet it would act the same way as the bearing being bad.
Yeah, those are all the same symptoms, but I swapped in a different axle with different hubs. The problem stayed the same, it isn't better or worse. I suppose it's possible that both axles had the same bad hub that was worn out the same way, but very very unlikely.

I've driven around without the front driveshaft for a week and it was the same. The TC works fine, definitely can tell when it's in 4WD and when it's not. I know its quirks.

do you have that front axle with the vacuum connect/ disconnect? maybe the sleeve still has both wheels locked together? could that cause a problem even without the tc engaged? anyone?
