Default mystery part identification help

Hello fellow jeepers. While working on my 1989 XJ pioneer, 4X4, AW4, 4.0 - I found an unconnected hose - looking rather like a vacuum line. It is near the windshield washer fluid container and the hose just runs to the bottom of the jeep near the transmission. Both ends appear to be capped as shown in the picture. I cannot see any missing connect points, and have no clue what this is supposed to be servicing. Any ideas? And - please excuse my ignorance!

What is this hose line for?

On mine the attachment point is on the back of the diff, passenger side, at the top. Might be different on an '89 though.

Thanks, I found it this morning and all I needed to do was push the plastic fitting into the back of the diff. This makes me think about an upgrade to thread in a barbed fitting and hose clamp the vent tube on....but this might also just be another manifestation of my obsessive/compulsive side that also makes me swab down and wipe off the leaky oil from every piece of the undercarriage. Perhaps its time to seek some counseling for the new year!. Cheers, and thanks for the reply.

Not a bad idea. I have the same problem with being OCD about fluid leaks...I'll do my best to loosen up about it this year.
