So I've had my 96 XJ for a week and a half now. After i bought it a drove it 2 hours home, 85% of the drive was on the highway, and it shut completely off when I was in front of my neighbors house. I checked my temp and it was at 245 degrees fahrenheit, which I thought that was kinda high. I didn't think anything of it but yesterday, the first day I've driven it since I've had it home. I drove maybe 5 miles and it was around 175 degrees, and it wouldn't start. I didn't think 175 was very high but once it could down to around 140-150 degrees it finally started but I sat in a Burger King parking lot for 45 minutes waiting for it to cool down enough. All I could find for my problem was mainly to check for rust in the radiator but it looked very clean. Anybody have suggestions because I'm very lost with what to do at this point?
first step would be to find out when it shuts down if you spark and fuel. if no spark i'd test the crank sensor and the coil, no fuel, i'd check the asd relay. with it shutting off once it gets warm it sounds like a coil.
