so fed up man! im bout to snap on this garbage jeep that i bought my girlfriend everything was great till 3 days later..... ive rebuilt the front axle as the wheel fell off due to a bad wheel bearing at was rigged tostay together. he lied about the 4wd working and lied about the 9000000 oil leaks it has now but not the day we bought.... done ranting... anyways FUEL LEAK! i hear a hissing coming from the tank area and all i smell is gas i the cabin and ive checked the tank and the lines i dont feel any air coming from anywhere but the hissing is very persistant. yes ive dropped the tank... any help would be very much appreciated. please save me from pollutin the river with this big oil covered piece of ****

what year are we dealing with and are you positive the hissing is coming from the rear?

its an 87 Jeep cherokee. and yes i can hear it really well when i put my ear to the tank but cant seem to find it. the tank seems fine. im stumped

on this jeep you have a vent tube that plugs into the gas tank most likely top center and runs to the charcoal canister under the hood, there is vacuum on this tube to draw the fumes from the tank through the charcoal canister into the intake manifold, have you checked that? my first thought is the vacuum line is loose and that's the hissing and your smelling of the fumes.
