96 fuel tank in a 95 jeep Cherokee

96 fuel tank in a 95 jeep Cherokee
Hi iam new to the jeep industry and hope to learn a lot I just finished purchasing
A 1995 jeep Cherokee sport 4.0 litre HO. I fueled up and then notice that the tank had a leak so my buddy told me to buy a tank of the 1996 cause they are plastic witch make sense they don't rust ,but now he's telling me that you need some part out of the 1995 to put in the 1996 to make it work ..... Any body familiar with this swap if so can you informed me on some tips before I do it. Thanks woodrunner

If its from a ZJ it will be plastic. My 96 XJ has ametal tank, under the steal skid plate. I would not Opt for a plastitank, if you wheel. They split open where a metal tank gets a dent or hole.
