Default Mysterious black seam under headliner?!?!?!

I ripped out my headliner the other day and discovered this odd seam going across the whole roof just above the front seats. Idk what it is, I'm guessing it was replaced at one point?
The guy I bought this jeep from was a real sketch-ball so I know they did something.

anyone else have something similar?

I doubt it.. My buddy tore his headliner out and it looked nothing like mine. His didn't have the black line across or the foam insulation stuff.

Definitely weird. what does it look like from the top? It really looks like they replaced a section of the roof.

I'd say the PO was trying to stop squeeks and rattles. The actual source was probably from the marbles rolling around in his head. You may want to take the opportunity to capitalize on the goo and stick some tin foil up there, will render the government mind tracking beams useless. LOL, or maybe that's me and a few marbles missing. You can't justify the insanity of a PO, only shake your head and move on. If the goo is dry, will it sand down? Any exterior seams visible? If your going to put a fresh headliner then it's another story to add to the XJ PO lore.

I don't plan on replacing the headliner and there are no visible seams from the outside. My windshield isn't seals in the corners though.
I'm just going to line it with dynamat

"and there are no visible seams from the outside"

Somebody who was good with Bondo did a good job then.

Yeah I can't see anything from the outside. The goo is kinda sticky I don't think sanding it would do much.
