My XJ Still Wont Start!!! HELP Me Out!
So now that my xj is back at my house, it still hasent started up, and its kinda ticking me off. put in a new cps, new timing chains with gears, i mean it still isent in time becuase i took the timing chain and gears off to put the motor back in time once again, i guess my uncle dident do a good job of doing that. so when i get home today, i want to put it on time, and leave it like that becuase i am going to start to put everything back together and dont want to mess with the timing any more. If you guys can give me some help, tips, advice, do's and donts things i should look for that kinda stuff. it would really help. thanks.

as long as you get the mars on timing gears correct put it together the dist timing and firing order can be done after
i know but the only thing that am worried about is the cam shaft witch is the valves, i can put the crank shaft in time, by taking the #1 spark plug out, and seeing when the pistion is on top witch would be comprestion stroke, and on the timing cover at zero. thats when i know its right, but the cam how do i know thats in time with the crank shaft, i mean yeah i know the marks on the gears but am talking about what if the cam shaft is not in the right turn, you know what i mean, or should i not worrie bout that?

your confuseing your self the crankshaft goes around two times. to every one time the cam does ,this setting has nothinbg to do with top dead center on compression stroke and no 1 on the dist, just set the gears with the marks pointing at each other your done forget the dist untill later
