I was driving this morning Had to put it in two high for a bit Then was going to jump on the highway. So I pulled over and put it back in 2 hi the gear shift kind of hung up for a second I didnt think anything of it. Drove it about 186 miles round trip. Got home parked it for about 2 hours jumped in Put it in reverse back out of the drive way And then shifted to first took off it wouldnt come out of first. Pushed the clutch in stopped tried to get it out of gear nothing let out the clutch went around the block repeated the stop and go 5 or 6 times couldnt move the gear shift out of first its stuck completely I am able to put it in and out of 4 wheel drive stop and go but cant shift gears. help please this is my commuter. and Im supposed to be to work early in the morning.

Its a ba/10 with an np231 and its an 88.

 

Will it shift while not running? How does the clutch pedal feel?

 

No it wont shift while its not running clutch engages and disengages normally thankfully otherwise I would have been really stuck. I limped it back into the driveway atleast.

 

Thats strange that it wont go into gear even if it isnt running. Hmmmm.

 

Wont come out. Its stuck in first. I can start it and drive it just only in first gear.

 

I dont know man. You could pull the center consle and shift boot, and then the four bolts that hold the shifter to the tranny and see if you can see anything there is mangled.

 

Anyone have a clue?

 

It doesnt feel as if its in gear. The shifter will move from side to side as if in neutral but when you release the clutch its in 1st gear still.

 

sounds like what happened to the Eaton in the straight truck this summer. Stick was stuck in 3rd and trans was in low... It was an easy fix, but sadly I dont know what to tell you, or if it would be the same type of situation.

 

If worse comes to worse for a quick fix I can find a cheap ba10/5 but its 2wd is there a difference In the the 4x4 and the 2x4 ?
