Default is my radatior cap bad

im not shure why my cooling system wont relive pressure quickly. it seems to realy build up. i had one major blowup of the cooling system back in the winter (radatior split at seems, every gasket had a hole somewhere). i dont want this to happen again i got a tiny leak along the seal on my t stat housing. whats causing the pressure build up?

They are cheep the nice ones with the red pressure relief are about $10 and you should buy one that is only rated for 13psi that's what you are suppose to run. Some are up to 16psi.

Without pressure, the coolant will boil....when coolant boils, it's lost its ability to absorb/remove anymore heat. The rad cap is designed to maintain pressure up to a point, then release excess (above design) pressure.
