Default My little project

I had talked about doing this on my Wrangler but never did. Figured I'd give it a chance on the XJ. I liked the idea of having dual intakes. I didn't do this for performance reasons, though Im sure I will gain something. Mostly I just did it to do it, to be a little diffrent.
I went to Auto Zone and bought a couple cone air filters, then went to Menards and boght a "Y" piece of PVC pipe. Here are the pics of my work. I had hoped to retain the bottom half of the air box to be a splash guard type thing. That didnt work out the filters were too big. I turned the "Y" pipe so that more or less the filters were one on top of the other.

Cool idea but if you go offroad i would buy some air cleaner covers so you don't suck up to much dirt but it looks good paint the pvc pipe and you will never no

Well I filled up the XJ at half tank, averaged 18.83mpg that was mostly in town driving. Some highway but not much. Was pretty heavy on the skinny one too. Im really intrested to see what I get on a longer highway trip, I think I can push 20mpg.

why use a Y tube? the bottom part is gona act as a wet vac when you hit water.
More then anything you d want to make a splash guard shield or something to deflect water away from the air filters. Do a search on Hydrolocked XJ..

I plan on making a splash/heat shield at somepoint. Just too much going on right now so it doesnt get wheeled often.

As far as hydrolocking, shouldnt be an issue right now. Its sitting a little bit lower than stock. And from how I saw it when I set it up the bottom one sits where the bottom of the airbox was

My 1996 5 speed 4.0 got an average of 22.7 MPG on a road trip from Anchorage Alaska to Columbia South Carolina. 5,000 miles give or take 100... I did the entire trip alone and in 5 days... Google maps said it would take almost 8 days... But there is NO reason to do the posted speed limit in NW Canada lol... Who will see you? God? a moose? a bear? lol...

Anyway it had 255,000 original miles when I left AK and didn't give me a single problem for the entire trip. Bonded hardcore with my Jeep for a week lol...
