Thinking of getting a Jeep
Hello all! Need some help and opinion. I am thinking of getting a vehicle for the winter, (working at a ski hill, don't think the lowered civic will handle too well up the mountain ha..), and am considering a Jeep Cherokee. A friend of mine is into Cherokees and has one he would like to sell (I think he has two other ones).
It is a 1990 two door, automatic, 4 litre inline 6, and... a little over 400,000 km on the odo. Stock aside for 31's.
According to my friend it has been well kept mechanically since he's owned it, no major issues with the engine, runs solid and starts every time. The body requires a bit of work (wind, but has almost no rust (a touch on the door sills and underbody). I work in a machine shop, would be pretty simple to fix. I will try to get some more info on it tomorrow.
He wants only $500 for it, and may make for a fun project to work on during next summer when I put the civic back on the road. I don't plan on doing any major wheeling in it, just use for shuttling and getting up the mountain.
My questions: Is it a worthy investment for only $500 up front? The 400 k odo scares me a little, but I hear these things run like champs if you take care of them. Any major repairs or things I should be aware of?
Thanks in advance for the help and opinions! (apologies if this is the wrong place to post)

248,548 miles. Ya it is reaaallly tempting. I just don't want to get sucked into something I will have nothing but problems with unless I sink a few grand into it. Which is probably what I would eventually end up doing if I want to keep it for a long time.. For now i just want it as a daily driver that will get me up the mountain

Also found this one for sale.. Seems a little more appealing as it has about half as many kms on it.
