Default My little Cherokee is burning oil bad!! Help..

After adding oil to my Jeep and driving for a week, approximately 150 miles I did an oil change only to realize that not much oil came out. I did my usual 3,000 mile oil change poured the oil from the kitty litter pan into an old oil jug and found that a little less than three quarts came out. Usually it would only burn about 2 quarts of oil per 800 miles. My Jeep has 323,000 miles on it and it still runs pretty damn strong. I needed a new oil cap because i noticed after degreasing the engine one day that there was oil all over the top of the valve cover, but I'm not sure if that would be the case. No leaks from the engine, only leaves a little tiny drop from the rear trans seal where the tranny mates up to the driveshaft. Do any of you know what this could be? The jeep isn't throwing any codes, if this was the case of broken rings, the engine runs really smooth with no abnormal noises except the tick from the exhaust collector crack.

Thanks, Richard

Well... I'm pretty sure you're all going to tell me to do a compression test and/ or a leak down test. I'm going to do a compression test as soon as possible.

Before I rebuilt my engine I had same oil issues. A quart every fill up if I put any load on the engine. Not good when having to deliver loads of firewood over 3 hour drive. I tried different things and what worked best was to never put any load on the engine if not necessary. I kept the rpms between 2000 and 2500 as much as I could (some times I had to speed up or slow down just to be in the range) come to find out I could go 2 to 3 full tank of that kind of driving before I had to add oil. Now I rebuilt the engine and still drive the same way. I figured if its easier on an old engine, it will make my stroker last longer. Oh yes. I also got a much better gas mileage. No more OD. I NOW HAVE A 6 speed in it. There is always a good gear to use.
