I've got a 98 jeep Cherokee that likes to randomly turn itself off. Doesn't matter if I'm moving or standing still, turning or going straight, it will turn itself off completely randomly. It will sometimes start up right away and other take minutes to an hour to start back up. have no idea what the problem could be other than a crank position sensor. if anyone has any other suggestions please chime in.

 

The crank sensor is a good place to start .

 

I replaced it in about 30 minutes, not a hard thing to do, started right up but we'll see if the problem persists after some test driving

 

What brand crank sensor did you use ?

 

If it acts up again, try swapping your ASD relay..
