ok so before i begin with this i cant really drive this anywhere because it has expired tags and all that and no drivers license so anyways this night i got it started up after sitting for a month and a half i put a gallon of fresh gas in along with the gas that was in there before like maybe a half a gallon before but anyways i got it started up and took it for a spin around the neighborhood and about .3 miles of driving it sputtered and stalled so i tried to start it again and it took a while to start and it did fire but then sputtered and stalled again shortly after starting it and the battery died so i couldnt crank it over thank god my grandfather lives nearby so i just pushed it in his driveway where it sits currently awaiting to be towed back to my house but a while back it did this to, it sputtered and stalled and would sputter back to life then stall once again and had to push it back to my house like i said i cant drive it around because of no license and expired tags im gonna get both of them soon tho but i also have no job at the moment so i cant just replace random parts and still not have it fixed but when i took it out it was running beautifully until it died no codes or anything but what seems to be the problem im gonna put alot of gas in it tomorrow to see if it was just out of gas or it was dirty but it has had a rough life ill admit with my parents divorce and all my dad would run it till it was completely empty and he kept cranking it till the battery died as well and that went on for 2 years till he got ordered from the court to not drive it anymore well anyways back on topic is it the fuel pump, or the crank position sensor, or there was another sensor i was suppose to look at also but cant remember the name btw its a 99 cherokee xj NOT A GRAND CHEROKEE i got screwed over by that already but what should i be looking for with this and any test i can carry out with it in a driveway because my mom gave me it because she got a new car and i love my jeep to death and cant wait to drive it (scrounging money to get it road worthy again is hard along with my license and insurance and tags) i dont want to get a new car could it be the fuel filter as well it idles fine and im pretty sure the fuel pump kicks on when i turn the key i hear a whine in the back like its working it can idle all day but it seems when its driving or theres load on it it stalls like it does it drives and runs fine until it just randomly stalls like it does and this time it went further than last time, the last time it stalled it literally went 100 yards and stalled and wouldnt start back up any help would be appreciated im pretty sure my grand father has a voltmeter as well could it be a possible electrical problem like ignition or spark it has 199.600 miles exactly to any input would be useful ~Qwazzy

Seriously its hard enough typing all that on mobile while all hot and sweaty from pushing a 2 ton jeep up a hill. And also being a very very humid night also having to walk all the way back home. Also with 6 percent of my phone battery I had to type it quick because I have memory loss and when I would of got home I would have forgot to write here and explain my problem. I know I sound very mean right now and its annoying to keep flipping to different pages on my phone to insert punctuation and such there which has 3 pages of them because Samsung doesn't know how to make a correct phone or keyboard. Please let me get sleep so I can be nicer tommorow. I struggle enough with my GED test and that having no sleep just adds to the fire.I will try to promise I will be nicer tommorow. BTW thanks for the help.

I had a hard time understanding your entire problem too, but think I got the gist of it. My first thought would be the CPS. They can fail in different ways, but one of them is that it will stop working when it gets hot, then begin working again when it cools down. So I would grab a multimeter and check that (cheap and easy to check), then I would also get a fuel pressure gauge. You can rent them for free at most auto parts stores... you pay to rent the tool, but when you take it back, they give you all of your money back. Anyways, rent that and check your fuel pressure.
Also, when was the last time any of the general tune up parts were replaced? Plugs, Wires, Dizzy cap & rotor?
I think you also said somewhere in your post that you weren't getting a CEL but that doesn't mean it doesn't have any stored codes, so I would also get it scanned (again for free at most auto parts stores) and see what the Jeep itself can tell you.
That's the best I can offer from the jumbled mess of your first post.

Unfortunately, I understand where your "style" comes from. In texting, important things such as punctuation, spaces, paragraphs take up data.
Only thought that comes to my mind (only because I didn't make it through your post very far) is that you might not have enough gas in it.
