My Jeep she's come down with something not Pleasant. It' coughs and sputters when started up About 3k RPM It Sputter's then Dies then Just cranks and cranks. Could this be the alternator not giving enough power?

Could be. But that would be the least likely cause. The symptoms you've described could be associated with several things but lets focus on the most likely one, your CPS (Crank Position Sensor). If you've got a multimeter, it's possible to test it, which is not a guarantee that it's functioning properly but it can be a guarantee that it's not.

x2 on your CPS.

You can also verify fuel pressure at the fuel rail using a fuel pressure gauge.

You can also check for spark.

You can also load test your battery.

All possibilities of a potential problem

Last night I left the over head lamp on and it drained the battery pretty bad. This is just whyy i think it was the battery/ alternator. It will start sometimes and sometimes it won't I rarely ever Drive over 3k RPM's Usually ill only hit 2k RPM. So I just drove it down to my moms schools auto Shop and gonna get it fixed there

Before spending money on it, I'd take it to your local auto parts store and get the battery load tested. They will do this for you for free. That way, you aren't just throwing money at it without knowing for sure it'll fix your problem

Well I'm thinking I wouldn't mind forking the money over to put into it. I have not done any Major repairs on it yet. Only regular maintenance.

Okay, tell them to check your crank position sensor.
