So, that 6% loss puts you around 80% of the power to the headlight that you could be getting by using a dedicated wiring harness of a reasonable size.
The headlight wiring was fine when AMC \ Renault designed it in 1978 and the lighting met DOT specs. I know mine brightened right back up to stock when the grounds were serviced ( second thing I do after a fluid flush and change ) Nobody said the relay kits were bad. I think they are a good idea when using headlight hotter than stock or when you have corrosion issues or maybe a person wants to make their switches last for ever.. I know the kit made no difference in my first DD XJ so was money wasted there. The trail rig with landing lights in the front ? Not relays but Ford solenoids to the rescue

The harness made a noticeable difference on my 89, and picked up about 1-volt at the headlights with stock bulbs. Then I installed a pair of e-code housings an 55/100 bulbs. I don't get flashed with the sharp cutoff on the low beams, and the high beams are are super bright long distance deer spotters.

You know and I know but most people don't. Or won't call them that.

My first experience with relays was in my 1937 Dodge with it's 6v system. I used a universal truck headlight relay and it made a HUGE difference! Everybody thought I'd converted to 12v!
