Is it my Harmonic Balancer?
Here is the problem:
My engine started making a whining noise and vibrating, the sound is loudest by the alternator but the vibration is mostly at the power stering pump and underneath at the oil pan. Whent to a buddy of mine who is a mechanic at a tire place to look at it, him and another mechanic listened to it and thought it might be the pressure plate in the trans, they sent me to another shop that works on that and the mechanic said he has never heard the noise before. Had me put it in and out of gear and was pretty sure it wasnt in the back of the engine.
He told me to go home and take the belt off and if the sound goes away then its not in the engine. Did this and the sound went away.
Now I have already put a new alternator on 2 months ago and a new water pump on this past summer. I checked all the pullys and none fill like the barings are bad. I did notice while the belt was on and the engine was running the balancer kinda slides back and forth, IS THIS NORMAL?
Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Could somebody give me an idea on how to check the balencer to see if it does need replaced.

Looks like you answered your own question..
There are inner and outer sections to a Harmonic balancer. If it's walking in and out the rubber isolator between these pieces is bad... requiring replacement. The noise your probably hearing is the balancer eating away at the timing chain cover.

they can't be repaired. If they go bad you need to replace it. And yours definitely sounds like it's that time.
