My front wheel snapped!
What a morning, was on my way out to take the kids to school and *BANG* thought I had ran into the bin as it was bin day, my daughter got out of the car and said 'Oh my god, the wheel has come off' and low and behold the front passenger wheel had snapped off at the bottom and had pushed the wheel arch out a bit
imagine if that happened at speed?!!! We've only had our jeep for a month and its a 2002 Jeep Cherokee 2.5 ltd edn and we loved it, until the morning
a tow truck had to come and remove it as it was blocking the street and he said that he's been to 3 cherokees that have all done the same thing. So....is this a common thing and has there been a recall if there is something dodgy and extremely dangerous?? I'm not very technically minded when it comes to cars, I just get in and drive. I'm sure he mentioned something about ball joints and struts? Anybody had this problem???

Well if you only had the vehicle for a Month, I would be on the phone to the dealer complaining loudly "How did this jeep pass and inspection". They should be very responsive to a wheel breaking loose, etc. They should be checking all front end parts prior to attaching a new inspection sticker (if they are an honest shop). Ball joints do wear, but there is no recall issue on them that I have heard of.

soooo the lower ball joint snapped? That seems...unlikely.
Oh, and by the way it's a GRAND cherokee, not a regular cherokee.
Sounds like you need to pay a visit to the dealer you got it from - they owe you a fix if it's only been 30 days (look at your purchase paperwork they should have some sort of a short-term warranty - they should)

welllllll now that that is cleared up. I have some links for you - evidently it's relatively common
and guess what!?!? There are multiple recalls for this part! You probably fall under one of them (most likely the 3rd one since it recalls basically every Liberty ever produced):

Recall # 48057
Recall # 64004
Recall # 73372
