Is My Differential Working Properly?

All you are doing is creating more resistance to the slipping tire by partially clamping the rear brakes.
It doesn't always work, though. You are still putting resistance on the non-slipping tire, still keeping the difference in resistance between the two fairly close.

OP, if you can, jack the rear end up, chock the front wheels, put it in neutral, and spin ONE rear wheel. If the other spins the same way, LSD, if the ther spins opposite, worn clutches or open diff.

Open the glove box and look inside the lid. If it has an LSD there will be a sticker in there telling you to use LSD additive when changing the oil.
