hey guys. Just sold a 90 commanche for 600 bucks. Runs great but i get a terrible shudder when downshifting into first. If i do it manually it shifts fine. I replaced the tps and changed to fluid. What would be the next step ?

any check engine light? if everything checks out, I would try dumping some lucas in the trans and see what happens...

 

No CEL on his vintage XJ.

I wouldn't go putting any snake oil additives in as it seems to be related to something electrical. I'd do another drain and fill before adding Lucas or any other stuff.

 

i did adjust the tps. there are some solenoids in the tranny i think. Anyone replace them before?

I have replaced solenoids. I had an extra tranny I got mine out of. If you get em new they are pretty pricey. Usually it's the o-rings on them that go bad and get solid. I would take one out and check it out. if the o-rings are toast, replace them.

 

so my mechanic says its a bad TQ but why does it only do it down shifting into 1st? Maybe my TCU?
