Default My 1990 XJ keeps stalling at slow speeds, need advice!

Stats:
1990 4x4 Cherokee "Pioneer", 130k miles

Symptoms: Engine stalls/driving wheel locks up during low speeds and/or coming to a stop (stop sign, yields, slow turns, etc).

I have replaced the fuel filter. Nothing else has been done at this point.

I did search this forum and saw something about it possibly being time to replace the IAC motor. I was going to do this, but then checked the price and a new one costs $100! So, before buying, I wanted to be sure that this is what needs to be replaced.........or any other ideas? Thanks!

Hi, do you mean the steering wheel is hard to turn when it stalls? if so that's normal because the power steering pump stops pumping when the motor stalls. The problem may or may not be the IAC please refer to this post for some more info...Tj

Hi Tj,
I will read the linked thread. Thanks.

Yes, when I mentioned the "driving wheel", I was referring to the steering wheel locking up due to the power steering that stops pumping when the motor stalls. THanks.

Update: I just cleaned the IAC motor and the valve.

Did not help alleviate the stalling issues. So, I took the IAC valve out again to double check it was opening, etc. Bad idea...the little dome/pin in the valve popped out of my hand and fell down into the engine somewhere...spent hours looking for it...looks like I'll have to buy a new one, regardless

In the meantime, anyone else got any other ideas?
